El Yunque Big Tree Trail
This trail begins at PR 191, km 10.4. Parking can be found near the beginning of the path in a paved lot, and at other spots near the road.
The Big Tree Trail is nearly 1 mile long. Generally, the slope is downward, going from heights of 1,804 feet to 1,640 feet. The total amount of time it takes to hike the trail, round trip, is 2 hours. Obviously some people hike at different paces and the time spent at the water fall can effect the time it takes to complete this trail. The trail is rated moderate in difficulty, and the grade of trail can be steep in some places. The hiking path is paved and there are structures along the way. At the end of the trail you'll find Cascada La Mina waterfall (La Mina Falls) where people like to swim in the water or watch other people enjoy it! You can keep going along the La Mina River Trail and exit at the Palo Colorado Information Center which will take you about an hour. |
