Rio Grande Puerto Rico
Rio Grande Puerto Rico, located west of Luquillo and east of Loiza, is a small city of about 55,000 founded in 1840. People say that the town was founded by Desiderio and Quilimaco Escobar (the Escobar brothers) but I have researched the subject and can't find any information on who these guys were (tell me if you know)! The town is named after the Rio Grande river which begins in the El Yunque rainforest and empties into the ocean.
Some of the more major features of Rio Grande Puerto Rico: CoCo Beach - One of the longest beaches in Puerto Rico. Not really a swimming beach unless the waves are calm but there is a ton of beach front which makes it possible to find some secluded areas and relax. There are some rivers which empty in the area so the water clarity is not great for snorkeling but it's perfect to cool yourself off after laying out in the sun. El Yunque Rainforest - I'm not sure the El Yunque rainforest is fully located in Rio Grande Puerto Rico, but there is definitely a good chunk of it! Obviously El Yunque is a natural treasure. It is a well preserved nature preserve with an endless amount of trails and things to do. Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa - With over 400 rooms, the Rio Mar Wyndham is a beautifully modern, huge hotel with all the amenities. Of course, we a partial to vacation rentals, but hey, this hotel is nice. There is over 1 mile of beach front available here. Gran Melia Golf Resort - This is a very tropical hotel with somewhat of an Asian inspired architectural theme. Very modern and ornate hotel. Onsite spa services and a golf course along with 7 restaurants and bars. |
