El Yunque Caimitillo Trail
The Caimitillo trail originates near the Sierra Palm Visitor Center. If you're driving yourself, you can park near the visitor center.
The Caimitillo Trail is one of the shortest trail, only about a quarter mile but the elevation goes from 2,067 feet to 2,427 feet. The hike takes about 1 hour round trip. The Caimitillo hiking trail is a fairly moderate to easy hike and you can walk along asphalt-paved or graveled surfaces. There are little shelters along the way with running water and grills where you can stop and have a picnic or hide from the rain! The Caimitillo trail starts with a series of concrete stairs, followed by wood supported steps cut into the rocky trail surface that lead upward to the Caimitillo picnic area. From here the trail, continues to the junction with the El Yunque trail. Here the trail turns to and continues to the Baño Grande Pool at the trails end. |
